The High Prairie and District Aquatic Centre came one step closer to being a reality rather than a dream July 12.
Representatives from Town of High Prairie; M.D. of Big Lakes; High Prairie School Division No. 48; High Prairie and District Sports Complex Society; Chandos Construction, John Murray Architects and the winners of the rights to turn sod for the new pool were on hand at the site adjacent to E.W. Pratt high and Prairie River junior high schools.
"It's a great day. It's been a long time coming," says John Brodrick, mayor of High Prairie and executive committee member.
The only thing left is to sign a contract with the company doing the construction.
It's been more than 10 years to see this project come so close to completion, adds Brodrick.
Over the past year, construction of the indoor pool got huge boosts in the way of donations and interest.
Now that the project is a reality rather than a dream, Brodrick hopes that everyone who wanted to see it happen comes back for the grand opening.
"I invite everybody back over in May of next year!"
