The High Prairie Community Profile that attracted negative comments from town councillors won first place in its category at AlbertaFirst.Com.

“It means that we did a good job on the profile. It means that High Prairie’s profile will be featured from time to time on AlbertaFirst and that’s what we were striving for,” says Marilyn Cavanagh, executive director of Lesser Slave Lake Community Development Corporation, the organization responsible for compiling and constructing the profile.

When High Prairie town councillors reviewed it on Sept. 14 they said it was lacking and not what they were looking for.

“I’m very disappointed. They missed it,” said councillor Mike Daubert, also a LSLCDC board member.

Mayor John Brodrick tells South Peace News it was a misunderstanding between the town and LSLCDC and he takes responsibility as he was the one communicating with the group.

“It wasn’t exactly what we had asked for. I think there was a lacking communication and I’ll take the blame for that.

Brodrick says the profile is an excellent tool and will be well used.

“It’s a good document for its intent and I’m glad it won. It’s a useful document, there’s no denying that.”

Cavanagh says Doug Cook, member relations and marketing at AlbertaFirst.Com Ltd., had great things to say about the document.

“He was very complimentary.”

This is LSLCDC’s second year for winning in the competition that brings judges from throughout the province’s economic development sector. Last year they won for profiles on Town of Slave Lake and M.D. of Lesser Slave River.

Cavanagh describes AlbertaFirst.Com as the premiere Web site for developers and investors. They want market information and statistics when scouting locations.

With High Prairie’s profile featured and highlighted on the Web site, it means more people who make decisions are looking at what the town has to offer.

“High Prairie’s name is out there.”
