It’s worth the gamble

There is no debating that the M.D. of Big Lakes council receives the most complaints from people complaining about the poor condition of roads. That’s why it’s so hard to figure out why councillors aren’t listening to Gilwood South, Sunset House Councillor Randy Ehman. Ehman is literally pounding his head against the door trying to convince council the last few months to hire another grader. Ehman says if they hire another grader they can redraw the grader boundary beats in the M.D. Each area would have roughly 15 kilometres less road to maintain, therefore, extra time could be spent on each road and – voila – better maintenance and happier M.D. residents! “It gives them more time to do what we ask them to do,” says Ehman. Makes sense to us. Kinuso Councillor Ken Killeen says it would not benefit Kinuso and Faust, however, because there would be so much down time for the extra grader to travel to his area. But anyone attending M.D meetings knows Killeen rarely complains about the roads in his area. Or, at the least, not as much as other councillors. Public Works Supt. Gilles Lussier is currently investigating and will report back to council. The idea is a good one. Not everyone is a road builder – including this editor – but Ehman is willing to try something different. One more grader, more maintenance makes sense to us. Besides, no one else at the council table brought forth a better alternative. In fact, no other alternative was brought forward at all. If there is a better idea, let’s hear it. It’s time to try Ehman’s idea. If council doesn’t, they are simply admitting defeat by not doing anything at all and that probably won’t sit well with M.D. taxpayers. - C.H.C.
