Golf club struggling to stay afloat

Board president Wayne Forrester says the course has been facing a major deficit the last few years and they are struggling to stay afloat.
“The course memberships have dropped,” says Forrester, adding this is a common trend with other courses in the area. “I guess there is just a lot of other things for people to be doing.”
Along with the drop in memberships, Forrester adds the course has been running on a four-person board and they need seven.
“We don’t seem to get enough community participation,” says Forrester.
That fact makes it very difficult to run the course.
“If you want a facility like this in the community you need the participation.”
If the turnout at the meeting is unsuccessful, Forrester says the current board will have to look at the options available, and that might include cutting some services.
“If we don’t have the participation we will have to make some hard decisions because you can’t operate with a deficit,” says Forrester. “We are hoping that the new board members will have ideas on how to keep the course running.”
The meeting will be held at the High Prairie Elks Hall downtown at 7:30 p.m. on Jan 22. Those interested in attending must be course members.
