Enilda Poker Rally to honour late Craig Bissel

South Peace News

The annual Enilda Non-Motorized Poker Rally will be held, as always, the last Sunday of February but this year there’s a little twist. For years, proceeds have been forwarded to the Burn Unit of a hospital in Edmonton. This year, however, proceeds will be donated to High Prairie Palliative Care Society in memory of Craig Bissell, long-time fire chief, fireman and councillor for the M.D. of Big Lakes. People are invited to ski, walk, jog, snowshoe, or any other means of transportation not involving a motor. Adult hands sell for $20 and children 14 years and under $5. All extra hands sell for $5. There will also be children’s activities offered this year as well as hot drinks and snacks all afternoon. The bowling alley will also open for stick bowling for those who want to try the new sport. A free supper is offered to all patrons at 5 p.m. After the awards are presented to the winning hand, a lock box and other activities will be held for the fun of everyone attending. The rally is scheduled for Feb. 25 from 1-4 p.m. at the Enilda W.I. Hall. The rally goes snow or shine. The rally is hosted by the Enilda Fire Department. Last year, 53 adult hands were purchased along with about a dozen children’s hands. Peter Badger won last year’s adult rally; Austin Norland won the children’s rally. Just show up to have a good time!
