Matthews chosen to serve on physician committee

Much like the Canadian Senate, the M.D. of Big Lakes council gave sober second thought and has appointed Triangle, Gilwood Councillor Ken Matthews to the physician retention committee. The committee was formed by the High Prairie and District Community Health Council to brainstorm ideas to keep physicians in the community. Council first appointed CAO John Eriksson to the committee but when he retired they appointed interim manager Jeff Renaud at their Jan. 10 meeting. However, Reeve Myler Savill said at council’s Jan. 24 meeting they had second thoughts and preferred to have an elected official serve on the committee instead. “I think it should be a politically elected official,” he told council, who agreed with no discussion. Matthews expressed in interest in serving on the committee and was appointed unanimously. The committee’s last scheduled meeting was Feb. 5 in town council chambers.
