A collaboration of groups of people have come together to help form and announce the creation of a new committee designed to encourage growth in the local health industry.
The High Prairie and District Community Health Foundation is formed and encouraged by the Town of High Prairie, M.D. of Big Lakes, Harry Jong, Linda Williscroft, Wilf Willier, the High Prairie Physician Retention Committee, and the High Prairie and District Health Council.
Chair of the health council, Nona Elliott says, this is a good chance to form relationships that will benefit the health industry.
“Together we will form a partnership that will assist in the integration of healthy communities, and the healthy communities, and the health care needs of our regional community,” says Elliott.
The new breed of health care professionals require advanced health care amenities and work place motivators, says Elliott.
“By forming the High Prairie and District Community Health Foundation, we are taking the first major step in acquiring these amenities and motivators,” adds Elliott. “The phrase ‘proactive’ rather than reactive’ will become the foundation’s byword. By being proactive the foundation will look towards the future.”
Part of the responsibilities of this foundation is to ensure that health care workers are supplied with up-to-date health equipment, says town manager Larry Baran.
“Their first project will be raising money to purchase a CAT scan,” adds Baran.
The foundation will be soliciting the community, in order to raise funds for the new equipment that will be used in the new and current facility.
Mayor John Brodrick says that town council will provide interim support in administering the foundation.
“This is just another wonderful example of the region acting as one larger community,” says Brodrick. “Volunteers from the M.D. as well as the Town are working together to meet a regional need.”
