Floor plans for the a new family resource centre is in the works, after the Parent Advisory Committee for Childcare meeting on Feb. 5. Children’s Resource Council executive director Lindsay Davies, says they are moving ahead with the project, with hopes that it will get the ball rolling on other projects to do with the facility. “We are making a model of what we want the unit to hopefully look like,” says Davies, adding the temporary facility will be about 3,000 square feet. “We have contacted a few modular companies for quotes, and they have said that they will get back to us with prices within in the next 10 days,” continues Davies. As it currently sits the standard rate is $175 per square foot. Based on this rate the unit is expected to cost $525,000 to build, says Davies, adding she might have a solution. “This company called GE seems to be the most interested right now,” says Davies. “I told them what funding we had to work with and they said they would get back to us as soon as possible with a quote. This company has done a number of projects like this so they have an idea of what we need, and they told me they will give us three or four prices for different plans.” GE has told Davies however, that with the basic funding they have they will only be able to build a 2,000 square foot facility. Davies adds the committee will be looking for additional funding through the Wild Rose Foundation which will match the other funding they are able to get. Davies says they were well received by the M.D. during their Feb. 14 meeting. M.D. acting CAO Jeff Renaud says the M.D. is in support and will be working with the Town of High Prairie to ensure they do not lose the possibility of this facility. “It is something that is needed in the community,” says Renaud. “I mean, I have staff that are struggling with the child care issue and I really want to see this resolved.” Davies says the temporary plans will be ready for the High Prairie Town Council meeting on March 14. Town Manager Larry Baran says he is currently preparing a proposal for council to address CRC’s need for a piece of land for the facility, and details will be given after council has discussed matters.
