Tragedy struck owners of the Desperado Meat Company Ltd. March 29 when a fire destroyed the building and all contents inside. It is suspected although not confirmed that the fire was an electrical problem above the compressors in the cooling room. The fire, which began about 5:15 p.m., quickly spread despite the best efforts of Desperado employee Gordon Binks to extinguish the flames. He was later taken to hospital for minor smoke inhalation. High Prairie firefighters battled the fire for about three hours.
