The High Prairie Tolko Timberwolves Midget A Female hockey club returned home after a third place finish at the Female Midget A Provincials in Lethbridge March 16-18. High Prairie opened the tournament March 16 with a 4-4 tie against the St. Albert Rush. The Rush led 3-1 after one period but saw High Prairie battle back with three second period goals to tie the game 4-4. A scoreless third period solved nothing. Madison Rose scored twice for High Prairie while April Larose and Sheena Willier added the other goals. Willier also added two assists. Jillian Properzi, Seana McDonald, Sara Komamisky and Michelle Tassone replied for St. Albert, who led 4-1 in the second period before High Prairie scored three goals in the last 5:56. High Prairie ran their record to 1-0-1 after a 5-2 win over the Calgary Cougars later that day. After a scoreless first period, High Prairie scored three goals to take a 3-1 lead. Two more goals in the first 10 minutes of the third period sealed the win. Rose was the offensive juggernault in this game with four goals including all three in the second period. Beth Peterson added the other goal. Kristine Ironside and Maddison DeSantis replied for Calgary. High Prairie opened play March 17 with a stinker, a 7-0 loss to the Sherwood Park Raiders. The Raiders put it all together in this game with 4-0 and 5-0 period leads. It would be their shining moment at the tournament as they did not make the semi-finals. Lacie Richard and Natalie Senez each scored twice to pace the attack while Devon Fitzpatrick, Shannon McTurk and Jamie Thrasher added one goal each. Fitzpatrick also added a pair of assists. High Prairie then faced the Okotoks Oilers in a must-win game in order to reach the semi-finals. They proceeded to do exactly that with a hard-fought 2-1 win. Rose scored in the first period and Shelby Pratt in the second. It proved to be all the scoring High Prairie would although a third period goal from Bailey Segboer made it close. The semi-final featured High Prairie against the Lacombe Ice. High Prairie lost this 5-2 game in the first period as they trailed 3-0 on goals from Sara McGarva, Hilary Clark and Matty de Vries. In the second period, Alyssa Gouchier made it 4-0 before High Prairie scored with 4:35 left when Kirsten Noskey broke the goose egg. Janelle Parent made it 5-0 just before the midway point of the third period before Rose scored with 7:15 left to make it 5-2. It was Rose’s eighth goal of the tournament. High Prairie, however, could not must any more offence and settled for third. The Ice went on to win the championship with a decisive 5-0 win over the overmatched Olds Renegades, a team High Prairie did not play during the tournament.
