No derby or mud-bog but Canada Day activities will go on

The proposed demolition derby and mud bog events to be held at the Pioneer Threshermen’s Association Canada Day event will not be held this year.
President Roger Kemp says attendance to the event is expected to be low this year because it is landing on a weekend.
“We need to clear up some public confusion regarding these evens. The board has decided against hosting the annual demolition derby and the proposed mud bog at this time,” says Kemp, referring to previous announcements made by Brian Odegaard.
“Among the reasons cited by the board are a shortage of volunteers for the event, and concerns that many would-be attendees for the derby will be away, as Canada Day itself falls on the Sunday of the long weekend.”
Instead, the association hopes to offer a number of family-oriented activities and free admission to entice attendance to this year’s event.
There may be small fees for attending the jamboree or for food purchases, but most of the events and activities will be free.
They will be hosting a two-day celebration Saturday, June 30 and Sunday, July 1.
Although the official schedule and events listings for the celebration have not yet been finalized, there will be a number of family-oriented events to participate in, says Kemp.
Highlights of the two-day event will include a musical jamboree, an ecumenical church service, a historical tractor parade, a children’s tractor pull, and children’s crafts and face painting.
Also on the Agenda, says Kemp, will be a logging competition, log sawing, flour milling, blacksmithing, and threshing demonstrations.
“We would like to invite the public to participate in this celebration,” says Kemp. “Any interested community organizations, individuals, and businesses, who would like to host, participate in, or sponsor these types of family-oriented non-motorized activities, should contact me within the next few weeks. Examples of your participation could be a quilt-making demo, rope braiding, an art display, machinery or antique display and so on.”
