An information meeting will be held on April 24 for the new Walk and Run club that is being formed in High Prairie.
Lynne Pardell, an organizer of the club, says anyone interested in getting out and meeting new people should come to the meeting.
“This club will be a great way for people to get together,” says Pardell. “People who take part in this club will be able to meet people they can walk with through out the week if they don’t want to be walking alone.”
Pardell adds the club will have two organized walks a week, but will also feature fun runs, or fundraising marathons, or themed walks.
“We are tossing ideas around but some of them include a Halloween walk, where we all get dressed up in costumes and go out for our walk,” explains Pardell.
Aside from having a new affordable venue to try and keep fit, the club will also give people a chance to get tips about competing in marathons.
“Those people who are interested in competing will have the opportunity to talk to people who have competed in the past for tips on training,” says Pardell who has participated in marathons.
The club could possibly be a year round event, says Pardell.
“If we can get a big enough group together we might be able to ask the town to plow the trails through out the winter months,” says Pardell adding she would like to see the trails extended.
The meeting on the April 24 will take place at 7 p.m. in the St Andrew’s Library. Those interested in joining will have to pay a $35 annual fee, which will go towards a T-shirt for the club.
Families with multiple members will pay $35 for one person and the remaining members will cost $15 per person.
The fee collected will also go towards the club joining up with Athletics Alberta for insurance purposes, as well as, will be used to cover expenses for hosted runs or walks.
