Community cleanup well underway

This week is cleanup week!
Starting May 5, people in the community began cleaning their garbage from their yards. High Prairie town council was there to help by placing huge bins outside the Sports Palace, as they’ve done each year for several years.
Garbage collection for this week runs until May 13. This year there is a new feature to the site.
“For the first time, we have been able to arrange for the proper collection of E-Waste,” says Councillor James Waikle.
In collaboration with Northern CARE, council has arranged for the safe disposal of discarded electronic equipment.
“You may have an old TV in your basement, or a computer monitor or a printer. If it has electronic components, the safest way to dispose of these items is by putting them in the E-Waste bin.” These electronic items will then be transferred to a site where they will be dismantled and recycled; whereas old electrical appliances (like toasters, mixers, lamps, etc.) can be collected in the “white goods” bin.
Waikle says the more we recycle as a community, the longer our landfills will last and the better off our environment will be.
Last year High Prairie residents managed to recycle 93,070 pounds of waste.
