High Prairie Town Council approved the 2007 Final Budget during the regular council meeting on April 25.
Town Manager Larry Baran says there were some minor changes that needed to be made but overall everything went smoothly.
“Council is pleased that we have a healthy, balanced budget that addresses our community’s needs as well as the special projects required for this year,” says Brodrick.
Some of the key points in the budget include mill rate changes, the announcement of a few capital projects and the expansion of public works department in terms of new equipment.
The residential 2007 mill rate has dropped to 14.7343 from 15.2847 and the non-residential has dropped to 19.4997 from 20.5643.
Baran says the overall property assessments have gone up marginally.
“I think my property taxes will go up about $50,” says Baran.
This year the town has several capital projects planned, including a new radio dispatch system for the High Prairie Fire Deparment, new road maintenance equipment for public works, several water and sewer upgrades, an expanded repair program for streets sidewalks and curbs/gutters and replacement of several water and sewer mains in the community.
“Council paid special attention to projects that would have an extended pay-back or increase staff productivity,” says Brodrick.
An example is the needs of the public works department for requested equipment that would make pavement repairs much easier to complete.
