Fevang land also touted for hospital

Although Peace Country Health is in negotiations with Peavine Metis Settlement to buy land and build the new hospital in the town’s east end, another location is being touted. Donald Fevang’s property northeast of town is also under some consideration, says George Keay, a member of the committee struck to lobby for the new facility. Keay says he spoke to Fevang about two weeks ago and he is prepared to sell the needed land. Keay also spent May 8 with Dalton Russell touring both the Peavine and Fevang properties. Russell is senior project manager for Peace Country Health. “Let’s find all the locations we can and build on the best one,” says Keay. “Dalton and I looked at (the Fevang property) and he was duly impressed.” Keay says either the Peavine or Fevang property is the best location. He says each has advantages and disadvantages. Both sites have services up to the current property line which is a huge cost saving. Keay says he believes it would be less costly to build at the Fevang location because an extra lift station may be needed at the Peavine site. Peace Country Health was in negotiations with H.P. Farm Supply to build the hospital in the town’s west end. Negotiations proved fruitless, however, so Peace Country Health pulled the plug on any possible the deal April 17. H.P. Farm Supply offered to donate 12 acres of land for the hospital in June 2006. All funding for the new hospital remains in place. The new facility will replace the existing hospital and J.B. Wood Nursing Home and be built to last for approximately 50 years.
