The High Prairie Elks Pro Rodeo is now accepting applications for Rodeo Queen competition contestants. Last year there were two contestants Megan Nussbaumer, and Cheyenne Johnson both from E.W. Pratt High School. Contestants of the competition face a number of tests in front of judges before the chosen contestant is crowned at the High Prairie Elks Rodeo on July 31st and August 1st. The conditions for contests are as follows: They must be between the ages of 16-24, they must be single, must have availability of a horse and horse riding experience and knowledge of the Rodeo Circuit. The tests for the competition include a riding component, speech component, and talent. Last years chosen queen Cheyenne Johnson said in previous interview becoming a rodeo queen was something she always wanted to do. “It really looks like a lot of fun,” says Johnson. When asked what she thinks the hardest part of the competition was she says she wasn’t nervous about any of the components. “I think they are all equal,” says Johnson. “I am going to have the most fun with the riding component, and I am going to do my best in all of the tests.” Johnson has been taking part in horse and beef 4-H for two years and has had uncles who were bull riders and a grandfather who was a saddle bronc rider. If you are one of the first eight qualified entries to respond, you will automatically proceed to the next stage of the contest. Applications have to be in by May 31, and can be picked up and dropped off at the Elks Rodeo Office located downtown at 5211-49st.
