A golf tournament with a twist June 2

Golf courses have been opening all around the Peace Country the last two weeks so the tournament season can’t be far behind. The Ultimate Horserace puts a revolutionary spin on the traditional game of golf. According to Reeve Bunn of the Creek Golf Course near Grimshaw, 90 players will get to be a part of this exciting first that takes its inspiration from the popular world of poker. “You pay to play, and the winner wins big,” he says. In this tournament slated for June 2, nine groups of 10 golfers will shotgun after a breakfast buffet where tournament rules and perks will be laid out. Hole by hole, one player will be sent packing for having the highest score. In the event of a tie, tied golfers chip off and the player whose shot lands farthest from the hole is eliminated. After the first round only nine golfers are left standing. These nine golfers, along with one wildcard (drawn out of a hat of names of those golfers eliminated on the ninth hole) will make up the final group to star in The Ultimate Horserace. “We are extremely excited about the concept of this tournament. It’s unlike any tournament that’s ever been put on in the North,” says Bunn. With a winner takes all prize of up to $4,000, (dependant on number of entries) and two fabulous hole-in-one opportunities, a chance for a new car and a chance to win $10,000, this high stakes tournament is sure to get golfers excited.
