Prairie Vista still on track

Construction is well underway on the four-storey Prairie Vista condominium building across from the Pleasantview Lodge, and 18 of the 24 suites have already been sold.
Work started at the beginning of May, and it should be finished by December. There will be three levels of condominiums plus a ground-level garage.
In terms of the layout, some buyers may not want a den, so they can take it out and create a larger master bedroom and living room. Buyers can also choose the type of cabinetry and flooring they want, and some are putting in Jacuzzis and steam showers.
“Each unit is a custom made home,” says Gordon Olson, owner of the local Century 21 real estate office. “Really, what you’re buying is a way of life, and you have the flexibility of not having to mow your own lawn. It’s giving people the opportunity to have a lot more leisure time.”
The building will be for adults only, although children will be allowed to visit. Buyers will include seniors and professional people.
The condominiums are 820 to 1,200 square feet in size, and prices range from $141,000 to $220,000. Olson says that these prices are affordable for people looking to buy in High Prairie.
“If we look at the cost of single-family homes, our average is well into $200,000 right now. So it (the condominium) is cost effective as well,” he says.
Don Mills is the site foreman for Span West Construction Ltd. He has 14 people working for him, most have been hired locally. He says that 30 copies of this building have been constructed in Alberta and Saskatchewan, and other communities in the High Prairie area have made inquiries about it.
“There are numerous towns that want these buildings,” he says. “You get to design your own suite as long as you get in early enough.”
There are plans to build a second condominium building next to this one, but no specific date has been set for construction.
