Town not in Brick’s plans

The Brick furniture and appliance franchise is not coming to High Prairie any time soon, despite rumours to the contrary.
The Brick’s manager in Slave Lake, Gerry Allarie, was one of two company representatives who confirmed that fact last week.
“I know they’re looking at Peace River, not High Prairie,” says Allarie Aug. 7.
Kirk Marleau works in The Brick’s franchise division office in Toronto. He confirmed Aug. 8 High Prairie is not in their plans, Peace River is.
“We’re always looking at different markets but High Prairie is not one of them,” he says.
He adds The Brick reviews close to 300 different markets each year throughout Canada to place viable stores.
“We look at the trading areas and type of retail in that area,” says Marleau.
The trading area issue is a thorn in High Prairie’s side. High Prairians have long accused Slave FLake of using High Prairie and area’s population numbers to entice business to locate in their community. That leaves High Prairie in a difficult position of attracting new business because they are seen by big companies as being located in another community’s trading area.
