All Peace League appoints new statistician
South Peace News Staff
The All Peace Minor Hockey League’s standings will not be issued from High Prairie for the 2007-08 season.
For only the second time in 19 years, Chris Clegg will not serve as statistician for the league.
All Peace president Jim Chute informed Clegg of the decision Aug. 22 by e-mail.
“I have decided to take the statistician job in-house to the league secretary,” says Chute. “The advantages for coordination of league business are obvious if the workload can be accommodated.”
Chute adds that replacing Clegg avoids any problem of conflict of interest arising from his duties at South Peace News.
Clegg was informed of the league’s desire to replace him in early August. Clegg did not oppose the decision, but was surprised to hear that someone else wanted to do the job.
“I’ve done the job every year except once since the league was formed in 1989-90. Since that time no one ever stepped forward expressing a desire to do the job.”
Lorna LeBlanc, who works for Grande Prairie Minor Hockey, will be taking over.
“Lorna will do a terrific job and I wish her the best,” says Clegg.
Clegg adds, however, that he was surprised someone told Chute he did not want to do the job any longer.
“That was not true and I informed Jim of that,” says Clegg. “I also informed the league by letter I was willing to do the job again if Lorna had a change of heart.
“I fully enjoyed my duties serving as statistician for 17 of the last 18 years and the contributions I have made to the league.”
The All Peace Minor Hockey League was formed in 1989-90. Clegg served as statistician each year except one in the early 1990s when Falher decided to also do the job in-house.
Clegg was promised the standings will still be issued on a regular basis.
“I publish the updated standings each week and I believe it’s appreciated by minor hockey fans. I have asked the league to issue standings each week to keep South Peace News readers as up-to-date as possible.”
