The staff at High Prairie Elementary would like to welcome our students new and old to our school for the 2007/2008 year. We hope you all had a great summer! There is a lot happening at our school already. Teachers and support staff have been very busy getting everything just so. We have a few changes to tell you about and a few new faces for you to meet. Mrs. Horosko found it so valuable to spend the last two years looping with her class, she is doing it again. She will be teaching Grade 2 this year and then taking those students through to Grade 3. Mr. BigCharles has moved up to Grade 5. Mrs. Coulombe is also looping. She is taking her students up to Grade 6 this year. We have two new teachers we would like to welcome to our school. Mrs. Colleen Greibel and Miss Christine Davidson. Both teachers will be teaching Grade 3 this year. In coming weeks our Peer Group students will interview both teachers for the weekly news report. Once again we would like to thank the parents, students and staff who helped during the summer to lay the last of the sod in our playground. It looks great!! We would also like to thank the Fire Department! Research tells us that drinking water helps your child’s brain. It keeps the brain hydrated and can improve your child’s effort at school. Ask your child’s teacher if they are allowed a regular sized water bottle at their desk. There are many clubs that the students will be able to join again this year. Watch the Peer Group board across from the gym for more information. This year some of the Grade 6 students and parents are selling tickets for the High Prairie Quilt Guild. The tickets are for a beautiful quilt made by some of the guild members. The tickets are $2 each and will be on sale throughout September while supplies last. Please support our Grade 6 students in this fundraising event. At our school we have a wonderful, supportive Parent Council. They will be having their first meeting on September 18th at 8 p.m. Show support for your child’s education. All parents/guardians of our students are welcome to attend. Last year the Peer Group and Parent Council hosted a “Take the Time Day”. It was a day where all the Grade 6 students, some staff, a parent and bus driver participated. We spent the day learning about each other and ourselves in an attempt to head off bullying at our school. Our school administration has been very supportive with this venture and this year we will be having 2 days for the “Take the Time Day.” We will be mixing the grade 5 and 6 students so that they will be able to participate in this program. More information will be given at the September Parent Council meeting. Please remember that our students are back to school so slow down in the school zones. Future weekly reports will be created and written by the members of the HPE Peer Group. Please check the South Peace News each week to see what is happening at our school.
