Volunteers needed for Fun Run

The High Prairie Fire Department needs volunteers for its fourth annual Fun Run & Walk. This event will be held at Jaycee Park on Saturday, September 30, beginning at 2 p.m. Race Director Lynne Pardell says volunteers are needed for things like the mascot escorts, the water stations and route marshals who direct the runners in the right direction. There’s a five- and a 10 km race, and the mascots will line the routes – Sparky the Firedog, the A&W Root Bear, Louie the Lightning Bug, Bertie Beaver, Trusty the Husky and Dolly Wally. “The kids absolutely love the mascots. They’re placed throughout the trails,” Pardell says. She also explains that this event is no longer a fundraiser. Rather, it’s for fun only, to thank the community for supporting the fire department’s other events throughout the year. Pardell has participated in this event for a couple of years, and she wanted to get involved with organizing it. She says that participation has been 130-140 people each year. “That’s very high for a small town,” she says. Participants can register right up until race day. The forms are available at the schools and other locations. She mails registration forms to past participants as well. For more information, or to register or volunteer for the event, contact Lynne Pardell at 523-5059. Or drop by the fire department on Wednesdays.
