Antique Show sells out in first week
Janet Porter- Assistant Librarian
South Peace News
The High Prairie Municipal Library was really busy with all the registrations for the `For What its Worth Antique and Collectables Roadshow’.
We anticipated three weeks to fill the 180 spots for the antique appraisal. However, within a week we were full. It was a fun time hearing the stories of where and when people obtained their items, who found theirs in an attic of a house they bought, etc.
My favourite quote was, “I know it was my mother’s mothers and I know it is butt ugly, I just don’t know if it’s worth keeping.”
On Sept. 29, at the High Prairie Legion from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., two appraisers from the Canadian Antique Roadshow will be appraising local items. There is an admission fee of $4 for adults and $2 for seniors and children over five years.
There will be a cafeteria and a large screen of the action. Most people want to see each other’s items; so come and enjoy the day.
After the Roadshow, our annual book sale begins. From Oct. 1-31, the lobby of the library will be jam-packed with books, videos and talking books. Prices are:
- hard covers, three for $5;
- paperbacks, three for $1;
- movies $1 each;
- children’s books 25 cents each.
Since this is the main fundraiser for the library, we would appreciate your support.
On Oct. 20 author Anita Horrocks will be at the library having a reading with 70 students from High Prairie Elementary School. Horrocks writes children and young adults books. Her newest book is called `Almost Edan.’
She grew up in southern Manitoba and after high school she moved to Alberta and currently lives in Lethbridge.
Preschool storytime is on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:30- 11:30 a.m. All are welcome for a time of song, stories and crafts. See you there!
