Regals begin camp minus familiar faces

If training camp is an indication so far, the High Prairie Regals may have a few holes to fill for the upcoming North Peace Hockey League season. The bad news is that four of the team’s top seven scorers are gone from a year ago. The good news is that Tyler Shantz and Travis Cunningham are both skating with the team. Both are elite players in the NPHL and would certainly add offence to the club. Justin Paul (29-32-61), T. J. Cunningham (18-35-53) and Rollie Gladue (19-26-45) all return but Lance Gauchier (23-29-52), Darin Konelsky (15-31-46), Lee Lamouche (18-11-29) and Davis Baroldi (10-15-25) are all gone, at least for now. The club is hoping at least two of those players will eventually lace up the skates. In goal, Cannon Cunningham is back but Sandford Lamouche has not yet returned. Last season, the two combined for a terrific 1-2 punch in net. Lamouche’s status is unclear as attempts to contact Regals’ brass Sunday night were unsuccessful. Kyle Shantz and Chris Prpich have also been attending camp. Defenceman Brandyn Kuchuk is playing junior hockey in Peace River this season. His game came along quite nicely last season and he will be missed. Lawrence Anderson, Rocky Collins, Rondy Gauchier, Dillon Cunningham, Dwayne Haugen, Stewart Cunningham, Jarrod Gauchier and Tim Cunningham have all attended camp and will add a nice mix tothe team. However, Jay Anderson, Claude Cunningham, Laine Gray, Cory Reid, Robert Dowsett and Shane Smith need replacing. Bruce Cunningham, has kept his promise of retirement, at least for now. Rocky Sawchyn, who was expected to return this year, suffered an off-season injury.
