East Prairie takes a stand against violence
news2

Above are most of the people who attended the East Prairie Walk Against Family Violence Nov. 24. Holding the banner are Morgan Howse, left, and Elder Albert Desjarlais. Howse is East Prairie’s representative on the Youth Network for Region 10, Childhood Services. Cold weather did nothing to chill the group’s enthusiasm as they walked for a good cause.

Just under 30 people braved a cold, snowy morning Nov. 24 to walk a few hundred yards in a stand against violence. East Prairie Metis Settlement’s Community Justice Program sponsored the walk, which encouraged everyone to attend and show support for the cause. Project team leader Yvonne Ferens helped organize the walk and says everyone must so their part to educate people on the terrible effects family violence has. After the walk, there were a few speeches and everyone enjoyed a lunch at the East Prairie Hall courtesy of the East Prairie HeadStart program. Joining the group was East Prairie resident Gerald Cunningham, who was also recently elected president of the Metis Settlements of Alberta General Council. This was the third annual walk against violence held at East Prairie.
