When Alie Dumont, 10, attended the Festival of Trees Dec. 4 she was immediately drawn to the photo of her loving grandfather, Bill Shachtay, on the High Prairie and District Palliative Care Society tree. Shachtay passed away Nov. 11, 1999. Each year, the society lets family members put a photo of a deceased loved one on a star, which is hung on their tree. A second Festival of Trees open house will be held Dec. 12 from 6-8 p.m. at the High Prairie Hospital. Everyone is encouraged to see all 20 trees, including one decorated upside down and one on a stretcher.
