Children ran here and there, got their pictures taken with Santa and created Christmas crafts with relatives at the Elks Hall on Dec. 7.
The High Prairie and District Children’s Resource Council held their Christmas party there that afternoon.
This is the first time the Council has held this event community-wide, says Charlene McLay, a parent educator. It was held at the Council’s office or at a church in prior years.
In terms of crafts, families had their choice of creating a Christmas stocking or a snowflake. The stockings were made with crayons, craft paper, yarn, a felt material and Christmas stickers. The snowflakes were made using craft paper, scissors and glue.
For the game, children putted golf balls through structures like those found on a miniature golf course. Some children got their faces painted too.
When it came time to sit on Santa’s lap, some children hammed it up for the camera, and others were a little shy. Each child received a goody bag and a small book after getting their picture taken with the jolly old man in the red suit.
Four-year-old Amber Brown told Santa that she wants a mermaid doll for Christmas. Six-year-old Chase Laughlin wants games for his Wii game counsel, and a stapler to put his art up with.
Lorraine Wilton attended the Christmas party with her grandson, three-year-old Shale Wilton.
This was her first time at this kind of an event, and she enjoyed meeting other families and creating a Christmas crafts with Shale. She says she had even more fun than him. While on Santa’s lap, Shale asked for many toy cars for Christmas.
The Children’s Resource Council wiil hold an open house for volunteers on Dec. 17, as thanks for their work with that organization.
