The sound of gospel and Christmas music filled the High Prairie Church of Nazarene Dec. 15. It was a time of spiritual uplifting that the Daae Family from Bromhead, Sask., which is southeast of Regina, shared with 87 people. A roast beef dinner, organized by Pastor Pat Duffin and the High Prairie Christian Centre, was held before the concert. Pastor Duffin was also the master of ceremonies. He first thanked the Church of Nazarene for the use of its hall, Bethel Baptist Church and St. Mark’s Anglican Church for providing some tables and chairs. “We did it for the community,” says Pastor Duffin. Later, he invited the Daae Family to perform. The family is comprised of husband and wife, Wayne and Cathy Daae; their two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Lauren Daae, and Michael and Shannon Daae; as well as their daughters, Amanda and Crystal Daae. Wayne Daae operated the sound system as the rest of the family performed. He joined in for a couple of songs later on. Some of their songs hark back to when they were growing up and their family traditions they enjoyed. All of their songs relate to God, Jesus, and caring for family and for those who are without. Their first song was Long Black Train to which the audience clapped along. Next, they sang I Found it all in the Blood, describing how Christ died for the sins of others. In their next song, Christmas Shoes, a child wants to give his dying mother a pair of shoes because it will mean so much to her. Shannon Daae performed a violin solo to Silent Night. The audience joined in. Then, Wayne Daae led his family in Grandma’s House for Christmas, which had an upbeat tempo. Wayne and Cathy Daae recently celebrated their 25th anniversary. They sang I’m Longing for Jesus to Come Back in reference to it. “We’re here to share the love of Jesus with you,” Wayne Daae said, adding He will return someday. Their next song, Thank You, Lord, for Your Blessings on Me, is about how one should appreciate having a roof over their head, food on the table and shoes on their feet. Michael Daae took the spotlight to sing, A Gift Born Just for You, which he composed. It describes the birth of Jesus, as well as His sacrifices. Next up was No Room, which Daniel Daae sang and his mother composed. Then the family sang Me in God, with Lauren Daae in the lead. The family spells out the meaning of Dec. 25 with their song C-H-R-I-S-T -M-A-S, which was their next song. Next, Lauren Daae led in singing Heirloom, and the audience joined in for the last few verses. Shannon Daae then played her violin and led in the singing of Away in a Manger. The last song they played their instruments to was One Bright Star. Cathy Daae led everyone in prayer afterwards. At the end of the concert, the entire family sang The Love of God and Light of the World. The Daae Family has been performing since 1989 and have toured in Western Canada and the U.S. They have performed in Beaverlodge twice, and at the summer Canadian Gospel Music Celebration in Red Deer five times. Wayne Daae says they are on the road for 100-120 concerts a year, making this a full-time career for them. They have released three CDs, including The Daae Family: Harvest Time, and are working on a Christmas CD which should be released soon.
