The High Prairie Timberwolves midget ladies hosted a tournament with the Grande Prairie Thunder, Slave Lake Thunder and Grovedale Vipers Jan. 11-13. No trophies or medals were presented as the tournament was only for fun. A shootout was held at the end of most games, also for fun. The Timberwolves played their first game Jan. 11 against the Grande Prairie Thunder. The Timberwolves won 3-1 with Tanis Desjarlais scoring two goals. Shelby Pratt added the other. The Timberwolves lost 5-1 to Grovedale Jan. 12. Grovedale proved superior on the forecheck and forced the Timberwolves to turn the puck over several times. However, Samantha Rondeau scored an unassisted goal near the halfway mark of the third period to deny Grovedale a shutout. The Timberwolves suffered the same fate against the Slave Lake Thunder the same afternoon by losing 6-1. Again, the opposing team was superior on the forecheck. Tanis Desjarlais scored for the Timberwolves during the second period with assists going to Lacy Collins and Jocelyn Belyan. The Timberwolves suffered a 2-0 shutout loss at the hands of the Slave Lake Thunder Jan. 13 in their first playoff game despite having several great scoring opportunities. Near the end of the first period, Chasity Gladue was standing to the left of the net with no one to challenge her. The puck came her way, but she failed to connect with it. In the second period, Chasity Gladue took a shot on net, and it was stopped. Lacy Collins was there for the rebound but also stopped. Despite winning only one game, Timberwolves’ coach Lindsay Pratt was pleased with his team’s performance and effort. “We invited some good teams. There were no slouches out there,” says Pratt. “Any team could have won and it was a fun tournament.” He appreciates having the second ice surface. The tournament was the first held in the arena. Patricia Belyan was the tournament coordinator. She was hoping for six teams for the tournament but was pleased four teams participated. She thanks all the parents for putting on a great tournament.
