Devon Quartly shows the eggs he used to simulate human eyes in his project Burning Eyes.

Prairie River Junior High School held its Grade 8 Science Fair Feb. 5 at the downtown Elks Hall. This year’s range of projects impressed the judges, who marveled at the ingenuity of the students. Above, Devon Quartly shows the eggs he used to simulate human eyes in his project Burning Eyes. He used Javex, Lysol, Drano and CLR to see how eyes burned. “I used eggs because they have the same protein as our eyes,” he says. Below, Jason Drefs, left, and judge Jordan Lewis discuss Drefs’ project. Other projects came to some interesting conclusions: Tide is a better cleaner than Gain or Cheer, discovered Julie and Taylor Wardman; Pepsi won best taste over Coke in the Battle of the Brands by Rhiley Laderoute; Zach Bliss studied the evolution of the hockey stick; Chad Gacuya and Devorie Howse discovered energy drinks do boost performance; and Kendall Carlson made a bicycle for a handicapped person.
