A fire at High Prairie Freson IGA March 15 at 1:30 p.m. has resulted in the closure of the store for an undetermined time. The fire started in the trash compacter located at the northwest corner of the store. The cause is unknown at press time and it did not cause any structural damage to the building. Smoke quickly filled the store within minutes. IGA employee Josh Jamieson says the smoke was so thick customers could not see more than five feet inside the store through the windows. Freson IGA manager Matt Lovsin says he has no idea how long the store will be closed because it will depend on the health inspector’s assessment of the food and subsequent repairs. Lovsin, who says the store is insured, says the store will have to be completely repainted. Fruit and beverage produce will have to be destroyed. Other items will be determined on a one-by-one assessment this week. Lovsin says the store will reopen only when they can provide quality service and a quality product to their customers.
