Undefeated during the season, the High Prairie Pee Wee Girls Crush won the All Peace Minor Hockey League Female “A” Tier 3 Championship banner after a 15-1 win over the Fairview The Co-operators Crashers. The teams played at the Sports Palace March 8 in a two-game, total point series. After the 15-1 pasting, however, the second game became unnecessary because of the mercy rule. The Crush and Crashers were closely matched in the first period. Hayley Laugh- lin scored her first of three goals at the five-minute mark. Elisha Cunningham scored an unassisted goal five minutes later. Alexis McNeil scored the Crashers’ only goal near the 18-minute mark and the Crush led 2-1 after one period. The Crush took control of the game in the second period. Laughlin, Angel Chalifoux and Jackie Gauchier each scored once and Cunningham scored two more goals late in the period to make it 7-1. The Crush added eight more goals to their tally in the third period. Laughlin scored her third goal of the game, while Angel Chalifoux added three more for a total of four. Also scoring were Bethany Schur- Auger, Macha- ela Rose, Jackie Gauchier and Elisha Cunningham. Although Crush won easily, coach Philip Rose takes nothing away from Fairview. “They came out and held us in the first period. We were only ahead 2-1 going into the second,” says Rose. He adds his team had a long season because of the loss of two players. However, he devised two forward lines and one line of defence, with a single player to rotate. In addition, the stronger players work with the weaker players, and he and the other coaches are happy with their teamwork. He adds High Prairie has a very good female showing in minor hockey. The team is now preparing for a provincial tournament in Olds, Alta. at the end of March.
