The PennWest TiCats returned from Irma, Alta. with a third place finish in their pockets after play concluded at the Alberta Female Bantam “B” Provincials March 14-16.
The TiCats went 2-1-1 in round-robin play before losing to Camrose in the semi-final 4-3 in double overtime.
Meanwhile, the High Prairie Midget Legionnaires won once and lost two at the Alberta Male Midget “A” Provincials in Whitecourt and did not qualify for the semi-finals.
The TiCats defeated the host Irma club 5-4 in their opening game. They tied Edmonton 3-3 before securing a semi-final berth with a 5-1 win over Spruce Grove. The meaningless fourth round-robin game was a 6-1 loss to Lethbridge, who defeated Camrose 8-4 in the final.
The midgets found the going much tougher in Whitecourt. They were whipped 11-4 by Vegreville and 9-5 by host Whitecourt to put them out of the running. They did rebound to blast Chestermere 11-3 in their final game but it was too little too late as far as they were concerned.
High Prairie did not play the eventual champions from Lacombe, who defeated Whitecourt 4-2 in the final.
