Although some work remains in the 24-unit Prairie Vista Condominiums building, some buyers are already moving in.
The target market is the older buyer, as they must be at least 45 years old to purchase one. Gord Olson of Century 21 Sunnyside Realty is handling the sales. He says Prairie Vista Condominiums will appeal to those who don’t want to handle landscaping and other maintenance responsibilities.
“You’re buying a way of life where you don’t have to do maintenance. There’s no lawn to mow, trees to prune and stuff like that.”
There are one- and two-bedroom units ranging from 820 to 1,211 square feet, and prices are between $151,000 and $226,000. Condo fees will be $150 to $200 per month, and they cover heat, hot water and garbage removal.
All the corner units have been sold, and they feature wraparound patios.
Buyers can customize their units. For example, one buyer may need only one bedroom, leaving more space for a den or bigger living room. In addition, the units feature 1 ½ or two bathrooms and a laundry room, and have at least one storage room on the patio.
Buyers can also customize the flooring, kitchen cabinetry and other items for their units, although they have to pay a higher price for things like hardwood flooring. All the kitchens have a dishwasher and range hood, and they can be customized for fridges, stoves and islands.
Each unit is equipped with a fire alarm and sprinkler system, and the hallways are pressurized for climate control to minimize allergens and smells.
The upper three floors are for occupancy, while the main floor is comprised of a parkade and a common area with a kitchenette.
Prairie Vista Condominiums is located next to Pleasantview Lodge. Construction began in May 2007, and mainly local materials and tradespeople were used.
Century 21 Sunnyside Realty plans to hold an open house in late March or early April for the remaining units.
