E.W. Pratt High School’s Class of 2008 is being encouraged to pursue their dreams and make them a reality. Pratt’s 73 graduates took centrestage May 10 as the class celebrated its commencement amidst serious wishes sprinkled with humour. High Prairie School Division chair Joyce Dvornek told graduates they were ‘On the Edge of a Dream’ which was their chosen theme. “As you strive to reach your dreams, remember graduation from high school is just one of the steps you will take as move on the edge of your dream,” says Dvornek. “Follow the golden rule; do unto others as you would have done unto you. Treat yourselves with respect, and respect those around you. You are and always will be your own worst critic and enemy.” Dvornek reminded each graduate to thank their parents for their sacrifices. “… who helped you achieve this and other significant milestones in your lives.” Dvornek promised life would bring good and bad times but reminded graduates they were given the tools necessary to deal with them. “And when there are bad times, and there will be bad times, learn from them, but do not dwell on them.” Councillor James Waikle delivered an address from High Prairie town council in Mayor Rick Dumont’s absence. Waikle spoke about his time as a gas station attendant at Shell Snack and Car Wash and how he go to know the students. He congratulated the parents for raising children he trusted fully when he had to leave the store and fix the car wash. Susan Cardinal-Lamouche and Denise White attended on behalf of Metis Settlements General Council and presented sashes to Metis students.
