Elks and OORP 2008 Conference

The schools in High Prairie did their part celebrating Purple Up Day June 6, including Vern Griebel’s Grade 3G class at High Prairie Elementary School. A Texas Scramble golf tournament held June 4-5 was part of the Elks and Royal Purple Conference. Dave Franz makes a drive on the fairway for the sixth hole, just before the bridge and water obstacle. Franz represents the Didsbury Elks Lodge BPOE 514.

Peter Zahacy, left, 92, is the oldest member of the High Prairie Elks. He receives his pin for 65 years of membership from Alberta Elks President Ken Komzrnisky. Zahacy walked 14 miles to attend meetings.

The provincial Elks conference was held in the Elks Hall June 6, and various reports were presented following the opening ceremony. Above are members of the executive, left-right, Dwayne Romuld (Grand Lodge Loyal Knight), Lloyd McLeod (Judiciary Chairman), Don Neal (President of the Alberta Elks Association), Nick Henger (Secretary-Treasurer), Ken Fedoruk (Financial Chairman), Bob Shave (Elected Trustee) and John Christie (Esquire).

Registration for the Elks and Royal Purple Conference was handled in the Elks Hall June 4. Left-right are Richard Kemp, who handled registration for the Elks delegates, Noel Pell from Lacombe and Ken Komarinsky from Delia.

This vest covered with pins from across Alberta was one of the many items auctioned off at the silent auction.
