Pro golfer Stephen Scahill stopped by the High Prairie and District Golf Club last week to play a few rounds, using the time to prepare for his next Asian Tour. Above, he just misses the hole on the third green. Scahill shot four rounds in High Prairie scoring 34, 34, 33, and 35 on the par-36 course.

It’s not every day the High Prairie and District Golf Club welcomes a professional golfer, but Stephen Scahill dropped by for a few rounds last week.
“For a little town, it’s great. It’s pretty interesting to play some of the holes,” says Scahill.
He liked the par 5 third hole and the par 4 fifth hole, among others.
“There’s a bit more strategy in those ones. For the par 5, you need to hit down the right side to have any view of the green, otherwise you’ve … got a blind shot and it’s hard to judge where you want to play,” says Scahill.
“For the fifth (hole) you’ve got the pond on the right and it cuts in much more than you think. You’ve got to really play away from where you feel like you want to hit to.”
He is using his holiday time to get ready for his next tours. He has played in the European Tour and the Asian Tour and would like to play in the U.S. PGA Tour at some point.
His amateur wins include the 1992 Eisenhower Trophy, 1992 North Island Amateur Title and 1992 South Island Amateur Title. The last two titles refer to New Zealand. After turning pro, he won the 1993 Pahang Masters, the 1993 Open de Tessali in Italy and the 1993 Cuban Open.
Scahill was born in Brighton, England and grew up in New Zealand. His father introduced him to the game in his childhood. He caddied for him a few times, played a few holes and his love for the game grew from there.
Although Scahill does not have his sights on competing with Tiger Woods, he wants to go as high as he can in sport. He ranked 58th in the world in 2007 and collected $US 82,929 in winnings.
