Glen Couch poses with the table, which is a nice addition to the Civic Square.

Glen Couch is a very disappointed man today. The 150 hours of work he did to complete the beautiful picnic table in front of the Tourist Information Centre has a sour taste today, after a vandal damaged the table by gouging the top. “It was delivered on Saturday (July 12),” says Couch. “I went back Sunday morning and saw it. “They took a big chunk right in the middle,” he adds. “I got it taped so it won’t spread.” Couch sold the table to the Town of High Prairie for $2,000. It’s a beautiful addition to the Civic Square but – unfortunately – apparently also a target. “I was disheartened,” says Couch. “Really upset.” After speaking to High Prairie Mayor Rick Dumont, Couch vows to patch the 6 x 10-foot table so it’s as good as new. “Dumont says the only way you’re going to stop it is to keep fixing it. I will fix it before the Stampede.” Couch enjoys woodworking as a hobby and has built other picnic tables. Last year, he built a table for Marigold Enterprises to raffle. He also constructed the picnic table for the Black and White Gals with a $500 donation from Dumont for materials. Couch also built a picnic table for a Gordon Buchanan Recreation Centre fundraiser which was purchased by Garand Jones. He also built two step stools and two bar stools for the Prairie Animal Rescue Society.
