Jay Anderson blasted a pair of home runs to lead the Peavine Rangers to a 15-6 win over the Whitefish Lake Hawks to tie their best-of-five High Prairie Men’s Fastball League semi-final July 17. Anderson hit a solo blast in the second inning and added a three-run bomb in the fourth as the Rangers avenged a 6-5 home diamond loss in the opener July 15. The stage is now set for an exciting finish as the series is down to a best-of-three affair. The Rangers scored two unearned runs in the first inning but the Hawks rallied to tie the score on Dustin Belcourt’s single, which scored Desmond Laderoute and Steven Cunningham. The first place Rangers asserted themselves in the second. Al Anderson’s home run scored designated hitter Archie Collins, who singled with two outs. Jay Anderson followed with his first home run and the Rangers were ahead to stay 5-2. The Hawks scored single runs in the second and third innings. Dalton Tallman tripled and scored on Clark Laderoute’s single in the second. In the third, Burton Auger tripled off the outfield fence railing and scored on Dustin Belcourt’s sacrifice fly. The Rangers put the game away in the fourth with Jay Anderson’s three-run homer highlighting the rally. Jesse Smith doubled in Travis Chalifoux with the other run. To add insult to injury, the Rangers added six runs in the sixth. Starting pitcher Burton Auger walked the bases loaded with one out, then surrendered an RBI single to Rene Cunningham. T.J. Cunningham then singled in two runs. Dustin Mearon’s RBI walk and a single by Archie Collins plated two more runs in the inning. Clark Laderoute’s RBI single scored Dalton Tallman in the fourth and Desmond Laderoute’s RBI single in the sixth scored Clark Laderoute to account for the other Hawks’ runs. The Rangers outhit the Hawks 13-11 in the contest. Both teams left seven men on base but the Hawks committed the game’s only three errors. Hawks pitchers also walked six batters of which four scored. Jesse Smith relieved starting pitcher Clint Cunningham in the fourth inning and recorded the win. Burton Auger suffered the loss. He did not survive the sixth inning before Desmond Laderoute completed the game. The Rangers host the third game of the series July 22 in Peavine before the Hawks host the fourth game July 24 at Atikameg. If necessary, the fifth and deciding game is scheduled for July 29 at Peavine, subject to change because it’s the first day of the High Prairie Elks Pro Rodeo.
