Peavine Metis Settlement prides itself on being the ‘Settlement of Champions’.
Today, they can add another winning team to the list after they won the Alberta Bantam “B” Girls Softball title in Edmonton July 18-20.
Peavine won six straight games against six different teams to win the title. A combination of strong defence, timely hitting and strong pitching from Kirsten Noskey and Jaylee Wolfe propelled the team to victory.
Peavine began their romp to the title in the easiest fashion possible. The Calgary Properties Pistons failed to field a team by the 3 p.m. deadline July 18 and the game was awarded to Peavine 10-0.
In the 7 p.m. game, Peavine blitzed the Lethbridge Boss Sox 19-2.
On July 19 Peavine won two games to qualify for the semi-finals. They first defeated Crossfield 7-4, then the Hanna Fusion 12-9.
By placing first in their pool, Peavine qualified to meet Lacombe in the semi-finals. They won that game 10-3 and advanced to the final where they defeated Sundre 9-5.
In all, Peavine outscored their opposition 57-23, not counting the 10-0 forfeit.
When Peavine won the tournament, they also won the right to represent Team Alberta at the North American Indigenous Games Aug. 3-10. The team is coached by Chris Noskey, Patsy Campiou and Earl Noskey.
