Members of the Metis Nation of Alberta go to the polls Sept. 2 to elect regional and provincial candidates.
A general election is held in Alberta every three years, and the province is divided into six regions.
The candidates running for region five president are Mickey R. Andrews, Louis Bellrose and Bev New. Those running for region five vice-president are Nora Chapdelaine (Andrews) and Elmer Gullion. Also running is Trevor W. Gladue, who called High Prairie and Slave Lake home for many years, for provincial president.
Profiles on some of the candidates are featured on pages 18 and 19 in this week’s paper.
To ensure fairness, South Peace News is trying to interview all the candidates for region five. As yet, we have not been able to contact allof them.
The polling stations for region five will be in Faust, Grouard, High Prairie, McLennan, Slave Lake and Wabasca.
The advanced poll will be open on Aug. 23 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and it will be the same schedule on election day. Chief Electoral Officer Cliff Gladue says Metis voters will have to show their membership cards to vote.
