High Prairie Fire Department Fire Chase

Children were certainly eager to start the five-kilometre portion of the race first. Most adults were only too willing to take a more leisurely stroll behind. Over 150 registered for this year’s run, the highest in the event’s five-year history.

The fire department hired a band called The Alternators to provide entertainment before the race. Left-right are Tahza Cardinal, Mike Marzotko and Rob Pardell. Not in the photo are Dave McConnell and Alex Marzotko. Band members come from High Prairie, Joussard and Kinuso.

Firefighter Kris Heemeryck triumphantly crosses the finish line in fifth place during the grueling 10-kilometre race. Riding in style and comfort are his children Alex, 3, left, and Makenzie, 2.

The High Prairie and District Children’s Resource Council attended the run with their tent to the delight of young children. Above, Peace River’s Kara Peters, 4, enjoys burning off some energy.
