In an industry that is constantly changing and growing, CCS Midstream Services in High Prairie is grabbing a piece of the pie. The High Prairie facility, located 14 kilometres south of town on Secondary Highway 749, is only one of the 26 treatment, recovery and disposal facilities that its parent company CCS Corporation, owns and operates. Recently, the local facility saw upwards of $29 million spent on its plant for expansion and technological upgrades. Marty Payne, north-central general manager, says the investment is a benefit not only to the company, but also to oil companies in the area. “We can now, not only provide more services, but we can also provide them effectively and safely,” says Payne. “We’re quite proud of this facility; it is one of the largest and the newest. “With this new facility, we now meet the new environmental and production standards, which without the expansion wouldn’t have been feasible. And we couldn’t offer the full range of services customers needed.” Before its expansion, which started in the spring of 2007, the plant was being utilized by 20-30 energy companies, with two of its major producers being PennWest and Pearl Energy. Today, however, the plant will be able to provide a full range of services to all companies in High Prairie’s geographic area. The services in the new facility create additional revenue streams and include vacuum truck receiving, waste processing, crude oil blending, tank truck flushing and washing and hot water sales. “We now have a lot less trucks traveling to Valleyview and Slave Lake to empty, we have become more convenient and have reduced costs for the producers,” says Payne. “Our automated crude oil blending system now offers higher through puts than before.” Payne, who has been employed with CCS for 20 years, says in lieu of the expansion, the company has hired five additional operators, creating much-needed local employment. “This job has been exciting with the constant changes and rapid growth. I have truly enjoyed watching the company grow substantially every year.” CCS got its beginning 24 years ago when Dave Werklund, president and CEO, built his dream from one “little treater” in Valleyview, says Payne. The company has grown to a value of $3.4 billion, and has entered the private sector. On the CCS Corporation’s website, Werklund explains his drive. “The world is waiting for what CCS has to offer and we’re positioned to deliver! “I’m optimistic about our prospects for continued success and growth that is bottom-line-driven. “The general industry environment is very strong and that presents great opportunities for volume growth in our core businesses.” CCS Corporation’s dedication to environment is proven in the, people, processes and equipment it takes to meet and exceed regulatory standards. The company is continually improving its standards, and its mission is to continuously offer environment, health and safety stewardship, by providing premium waste management services. However, its involvement doesn’t stop there. CCS Corporation prides itself on its extensive involvement in not-for-profit organizations such as the Ronald McDonald Foundation and the United Way. On a local front, the CCS Midstream Services is very involved in contributing to local groups. “We are always donating and offering what ever financial assistance we can to our local groups,” says Payne. “We are always moving forward and we would like to see the communities we are in moving forward as well.”
