One person was injured in a gantry crane collapse at the Buchanan Lumber yard late Dec. 18.
According to an RCMP news release, the gantry crane collapsed and one worker was trapped.
However, the worker was freed and transported by STARS air ambulance to Grande Prairie in stable condition. His name was not released, pending notification of the family.
Buchanan Lumber did not wish to say much about the incident.
“We have (Occupational Health and Safety) coming up to inspect it and we’ll go from there,” says manager Wayne Midnight. “We’re pretty distraught here, that it happened.”
Investigators from Alberta Employment and Immigration were sent to High Prairie Dec. 19.
“The main things they’re going to look at are the physical evidence, interview witnesses, (the) company paperwork possibly and then compare all that to our legislation,” says public affairs officer Chris Chodan.
He could not estimate how long the investigation would take.
