A nine-point fourth quarter propelled the Prairie River Raiders boy’s basketball team to a hard-fought 31-28 win over the Valleyview Hillside Cougars Jan. 7. PRJH overcame 9-4 first quarter and 14-8 halftime deficits as their shooters finally found the twine in the second half. PRJH scored the first six points of the third quarter to tie the game 14-14. By quarter’s end, they netted 14 points to tie the game. It was clear by this point PRJH had a deeper bench than Hillside, which they used to good measure throughout the contest. Dakota Banta scored 14 points to lead PRJH while Clinton Courturier added 10. Will Russell added three while Matthew Marquardt and Harold Johnson each added two points to complete PRJH’s scoring. Zack Judd led Hillside with 16 points. Damian Miler added eight and Louis Judd four as only three players recorded points for Hillside, who were playing their first league game this season after several cancellations in December. The game also featured plenty of fouls. PRJH committed 20 fouls while Hillside was tagged with only 12.
