Keith Loyst wanted to know just how powerful sugar is. Therefore, he completed a project called ‘The Power of Sugar Glass’. Above, he poses with a hammer ready to attempt to break the sugar glass. Anyone would be surprised to discover how strong it is. Sugar glass is used in movies because it is safer than other glass.

Chris Boulanger, left, explains his project to judge Marcia McDermott. Boulanger’s project, called ‘Human Powered Generator’, involved generating power from pedaling a bicycle to light a headlight. His project was a success.

Angel Chalifoux has always been fascinated by the Northern Lights. Her project involved a study to see when the lights were brightest. After her study, she is convinced the brightness of the lights depends on weather and the gases in the sun, which generate the lights.

Renee Campiou and her partner, Kaylee Calliou, not in photo, studied which of two shampoos and conditioners was best. They discovered Sunsilk was best on one subject, Pantene Provene best on another.

Trestyn Brown-L’Hirondelle discovered red willow was best to use to make homemade snowshoes. He built the snowshoes like one would over 100 years ago.
