Yvonne Noskey and her family are thankful to Peavine Bishop Routhier School and many others for helping them recover from a house fire. Noskey and her family received a cheque for $244.24 from the school Feb. 3. During the presentation, Noskey choked back tears as she expressed gratification to everyone. “You are generous, kind-hearted and loving students,” Noskey says. “You have taken the time to help when help is needed, you have made us realize that our school is a great place filled with great students, super teachers and awesome staff. You give us hope and strength by your kindness and generosity. We want you to continue to be great friends to each other. Always be kind to one another and when someone needs help, I know you will help them.” The students held Fun Friday twice in January, wearing plastic garbage bags or grocery bags over their clothing and paying $1 each. They also held a popcorn float sale, which was Kierra Gauchier’s idea and she is happy to help the family. The students also made a large card for them and the staff to sign. Heather Hempstock, a teacher, used her artistic talents to create a bird sketch for the family. “My talent is drawing,” Hempstock says. “We all pitched in, the staff used their talents to support the family. Our thoughts and love go out to them.” Principal Bruce Joudrey commends everyone who assisted the family. Darcy Anderson, Noskey’s husband, is impressed with what the school did for their daughter, Hailey. Her Christmas presents were lost in the fire, so she received an IPod, Nintendo Wii and other toys from students. “It’s unbelievable how the kids could band together for my daughter,” he says. “It’s just amazing.” Except for the patio, the fire destroyed the family’s house, a fifth-wheel trailer and two ATVs Dec. 27, 2008. The family was at another residence when the fire occurred so no one was injured. They are now living in a relative’s house and have received donated furniture, toys, cash, etc. Two other fundraising events were held, a spaghetti supper in Gift Lake Métis Settlement Jan. 28 and a dance and silent auction at Prairie Echo Hall Jan. 30. A snowmobile rally will be held in Loon River near Red Earth First Nation Feb. 15. To make a donation, please call 780-523-4235, or Teasa Gauchier at 780-536-0074.
