Hunters and other outdoor recreation enthusiasts should mark April 18-19 on their calendars, as the High Prairie Fish and Game Association is hosting their eighth annual Gun and Sportsman Show in High Prairie. The gun show will be held in the Gordon Buchanan Recreation Centre, while RVs, quads, boats and sleds will be on display in the Sports Palace. “It’s the largest gun show in northern Alberta,” says organizer Dennis Hazen. “There’ll be all types of restricted and non-restricted firearms for sale – pistols, black powder, muzzleloaders, archery equipment and accessories. It’s all inclusive for the sportsman.” Exhibitors from western Canada will be there with over 150 tables of merchandise. There will be displays for bench rest shooting, handgun silhouette, trap shooting, skeet shooting and sporting clays, as well as taxidermy services, antiques, crafts and custom made knives. Hazen will be taking registration for firearms licensing during the show. Three firearms will be raffled – a Savage Model 16 300 WSM rifle, a Henry Golden Boy .17 HMR and a Mossberg Over and Under shotgun – and tickets are $5 each. The doors are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the first day and 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. the second day. Admission is $5 for adults and children under 12 get in free. An “ole timer” dinner and dance will be held in the curling rink during the first night and tickets are $15 each. Information packages have been sent to exhibitors who attended in previous years. However, if other businesses wish to participate, please call Tammy Kaleta at 780-523-2272 or toll-free at 1-888-523-2272 to book a table.
