‘This is the way we make our pies’

The main dining room at Pleasantview Lodge looked like a factory Feb. 28, as 45 volunteers worked hard to make 400 apple pies. Four groups peeled the apples while others worked in assembly line fashion to make the dough, mix the ingredients and put them in metal pie plates and into boxes. “It’s just a plain old-fashioned work bee and fellowship is enjoyed by all,” says Norma Deuchar, an organizer for the Pleasantview Senior Lodge Auxiliary. The pies were pre-sold through ticket purchases and the proceeds will be used for luxuries such as TVs for residents. Deuchar appreciates the support for the auxiliary’s cause. “A huge thank you to the people who purchase our pies, to our volunteers and our staff, as well as the residents for the use of their space and (tolerating) the hubbub,” she says. One volunteer who enjoyed working was Marie Ochran, 9, who laid the shells on the pies. She is a member of the High Prairie and District 4-H Club and this was part of her community service.

Sophie Boisson, right, and Katamavik volunteer Regan Waller had fun putting the pies together. This year, about 400 apple pies were made by the women at Pleasantview Lodge.
