Members of the St. Andrew’s junior badminton team did well at the High Prairie School Division final, winning four gold and five silver.
“With the number of kids we have, it’s truly outstanding,” says coach Robert Levy.
They went to Slave Lake April 4 for the tournament and here are the results:
Gold
* Billy-Ray Belcourt and Jesse-Lee Belcourt won gold in the intermediate boys doubles.
* Hope Sauvageau won gold in the intermediate girls singles.
* Nathan Gingerich won gold in senior boys singles.
* Jonathan Belyan and Kendra Rosychuk won gold in intermediate mixed doubles. No photo of this pair is available.
Silver
* Sean Boisson and Morgan Caudron won the silver medal in senior mixed doubles.
* Casi Cooper and Heather Dowsett won silver in the senior girls doubles.
* Nic Marzotko and Riley Prevost won silver in the junior boys doubles.
* Mitchell McLean won silver in senior boys singles.
* Leslie Dueck won silver in junior girls singles.
Levy says the team’s strength lies with the singles players, although the doubles teams are improving too. They practice twice a week, two hours per day at school and they also play in the evenings at E.W. Pratt with members of the community.
The team went to Valleyview April 25 for a zone tournament and South Peace News will have the results in a future story.
